Scones

Makes - 10 or more scones

Total Time - 2 hours

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups of warm water
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Yeast
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 Tbsp. Shortening
  • 3 1/2 Cups Flour

Preparation

  1. Throw everything above into your bread machine, and set to the dough cycle (around 1 hour 30 minutes)
    You can make the dough by hand too (Mix, Knead for 15 minutes, and let rise for an hour).
  2. Break off pieces of dough, flatten by hand, or rolling pin.
  3. Deep fry in oil until golden brown (around 350 degrees).
  4. Serve with butter and honey.

My Comments

  • You can make these in the kitchen, or even in a dutch oven on a camping trip.
  • This recipe is not what the rest of the world calls a "scone".  I looked at a few hundred "scone" recipes on a web site and they all made a scone that was baked in a oven, and was more like a biscuit.  The recipe above is more like an Indian fry bread.
