Scones
Makes - 10 or more scones
Total Time - 2 hours
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of warm water
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. Sugar
- 1 Tbsp. Yeast
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 Tbsp. Shortening
- 3 1/2 Cups Flour
Preparation
- Throw everything above into your bread machine, and set to the dough cycle
(around 1 hour 30 minutes)
You can make the dough by hand too (Mix, Knead for 15 minutes, and let rise
for an hour).
- Break off pieces of dough, flatten by hand, or rolling pin.
- Deep fry in oil until golden brown (around 350 degrees).
- Serve with butter and honey.
My Comments
- You can make these in the kitchen, or even in a dutch oven on a
camping trip.
- This recipe is not what the rest of the world calls a
"scone". I looked at a few hundred "scone"
recipes on a web site and they all made a scone that was baked in
a oven, and was more like a biscuit. The recipe above is more like
an Indian fry bread.
